- I still need gloves. I have relinquished the Gloves of the Evil Empire, but my new, puffy, fleece gloves (which I've worn a grand total of approximately 14 times) are already losing their lining. They're cheap, but really -- two weeks??
- I still need a hat. I have a hat, purchased from a certain
cheapcasual spin-off (with initials O. N.) of the "fall into the !!!" (does anyone else remember that ad? and if one was to create a distribution of the ages who do remember that ad, what do you supposed it'd look like? I'm thinking narrow) store. But said hat, while the largest size sold (well, one would assume that the M/L size would be the largest; what's the point of combining if you're going to have more sizes?), still slides off my head because it's too small. - Why does PBS think it's necessary to do jazzy film editing for inherently fascinating topics? This is not the first time they've done it, either.
- I still need to make a sweater for the Little One, who came home the other day and said, in the most trusting and flattering way ever, "Mommy, you made my sweater, right?" No, sweetie; I wish I had.
- Why is a show that appears to spend a gazillion dollars on production values unable to get a NYC subway car that is more than 30 years old? And why does it pretend that the NYC subway tunnels are large enough for someone to stand on top of said car? (because my recollection of the NYC subway involves being struck by how close the tops of the trains were to the ceiling of some stations.)
I'll be in and out again for the next few -- well, weeks, probably. I leave you with a meme from Cathi.
- List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.
I’m not sure this counts, but I’m going to list seven songs for which I stop radio-channel-surfing, and for which I’m often channel-surfing in the first place.
Incubus, “Drive.” “Whatever tomorrow brings…” If only I could live that way.
Death Cab for Cutie, “Soul Meets Body.” What kind of bandname is that? I don’t know. I do like the soaring line, though.
*Shinedown, “Save Me.” So don’t like the lyrics. And yet I love to sing along just the same.
Audioslave, “Like a Stone.” I also like “Be Yourself,” but “Like a Stone” is more fun to sing along with.
*Caesars “Jerk it Out.” It’s the song from the iPod Shuffle commercial.
Gorillaz, “Feel Good Inc.” I had no idea I liked hip-hop. On the other hand, I’m guessing most “real” hip-hoppers don’t think this is hip-hop.
Depeche Mode, “Precious.” I’m a Depeche Mode fan from way back. I love this tune. I love this song. The songwriter wrote it for his children when he and their mother divorced; it's heartbreaking and beautiful, in that Depeche Mode kind of way.
I have to add the whole Green Day album American Idiot. For some reason, I really like the ways all the songs connect to at least one other song on the album. Plus, it’s got “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” "Holiday,” “Are We Waiting,” and my current favorite, “Whatshername.”
Okay. Tags go out to Kim, Laura, Jody (Hi Jody! How are you?), Ashley, and Terby. Oh, heck, and Cara too, even though she never does memes.
*Once upon a time and long ago, I dated someone who liked to scoff at suburbia. One of his favorite targets was the music, which he would obliquely diss by misquoting those crazy 50’s kids from American Bandstand: “I don’t like the tune, and I can’t understand the words, but it’s got a great beat and you can dance to it, so I give it a ten, Dick!” That’s kind of how I feel about these songs -- except it's a good tune that prompts leaving taste by the wayside.
You know why I rarely do memes? No one ever tags me! So thanks for the tag. When I'm back from vakay I'll answer. But it will probably be really, really boring.
