I'm, like, totally channeling Valley Girls tonight. It's, like, so weird! Like, y'know? (gigglesqueal)*
Ahem.
Do any of you know Amazing Savings? They're a close-out kind of store. My husband & I went there today. He found some nice frames, and a great, um, thing (sculpture? toy?) to put in Little One's "garden," and I discovered they have craft materials.
Oh, dear.
Let's start with the paper.
They're selling paper. Like, scrapbooky kind of paper. Do any of you play with paper? You buy it by the sheet. One of the patterns (that I didn't like) had a sticker on the bag that said, "This paper is not to be sold by the bag! Take this paper out of the bag and sell it individually!!" (Okay, fine. It didn't actually say that; it was less panicky, but, really -- not by much.) Amazing Savings wasn't paying any attention: you had to buy the bag.
The white with red "heart buds" (on top) is vellum. For those of you who don't play with paper, vellum is expensive. By the sheet expensive. You use vellum in your project, you're showing (off) you've got class and style. This is probably the reason it's so popular in wedding invitations. Meanwhile, the pink striped one, underneath, while merely paper, has a sticker on in that says "Beatrix Potter," and there's nothing like a well-loved name to jack up the price. But not at Amazig Savings. The bag of 25-30, 12"x12" sheets of pink'n'white Beatrix Potter paper was $1.99; the vellum, which is "only" 8 sheets of 11"x8-1/2" (but, people: vellum!!), was $0.99.
Oh.My.God.
Yeah, you say.
So, you say.
Paper, you say.
Yawn.
Well:
The store had yarn.
Okay, not MDSW-caliber yarn, but still. Do you go into close-out stores expecting yarn? What about normal everyday yarn? With wool content? Did you notice that it's sportweight? Do you know how much Lion-Brand Wool-Ease Sportweight goes for? (You mean you haven't been just spending a half an hour scouring the internet for the best prices? Why not?) It averages (on the internet) about $5.99.
Amazing Savings price?
$1.99
I'm thinking I might be going back before its all gone.
I'm also wondering what they might get next.
*I was never actually a valley girl: I wasn't cool enough. But I do a wicked impression; my giggle-squeal! will fool even a Californian.
wow! i don't think i've ever even seen wool-ease sportweight before! why is yarn so addictive?! i don't really need more, but i NEED more!!

Those are BARGAINS--I bought some vellum last Christmas for a craft project and i think I paid 99 cents per _sheet_. You should definitely go back for the rest of the wool-ease--just for the sake of the bargain. Is that your Shedir possibility, by the way?
Must find Amazing Savings...
