Note: it's getting colder & the tomatoes have stopped ripening on the vine, so I thought now would be a good time to post this draft I wrote up. In August.
We haven't had as good a garden year as last year*. The weather's been fine, but the gardening-husband has been all about the pool**, and the weeds have run rampant.
However, the weather has been perfect for tomatoes:
(Isn't that an arty shot? I think the paper plate adds a little something, no?)
We didn't just go for ordinary tomatoes this year, oh no. We have red and orange cherry tomatoes, regular red tomatoes, big orange tomatoes (an accidental purchase, but quite tasty nonetheless), and a couple of heirlooms. The early orange cherry tomatoes were spectacularly sweet, but I think my favorites overall are the one at the front there. Which, naturally, is the only one we can't remember the name of.
* We also had very sad bird luck this year. All the babies died. The Not-So-Little-One was not nearly as traumatized as I was.
